Australian Microsoft consulting partner nexwave has appointed Lachlan Wright as director of cloud and AI, as the firm looks to scale its enterprise Azure modernisation and AI delivery practice.
Wright joins from Versent, part of the Telstra group, where he was head of modernisation.
He previously held leadership roles at Mantel Group and LAB3, and has spent more than a decade leading large-scale Azure modernisation programs for enterprise clients, the company said.
His mandate at nexwave is to lead the cloud and AI practice with a focus on moving customers from AI pilots into production workloads - underpinned by modern Azure platforms, data foundations and governance.
He will work alongside chief technology officer Stefan Buchman and nexwave's Microsoft co-sell teams, with a brief to grow the practice's headcount and build repeatable programs for larger enterprise clients.
"I'm excited to join nexwave and grow our practice, bringing AI and modernisation together to help customers move from experimentation into production and realise measurable value," Wright said.
"That starts with defining clear business outcomes, putting the right platforms and foundations in place, and modernising applications and data."
“Lachlan brings the combination of deep technical credibility, practice leadership and practical delivery experience we need for the next stage of nexwave," said Buchman.
"We share the view that AI cannot be separated from the cloud, data, security and engineering foundations beneath it. I’ll be working closely with Lachlan to turn that thinking into clear technical standards, repeatable architectures and delivery patterns that help our teams move customers into production with confidence.”
"Lachlan is one of the sharpest Azure modernisation leaders in the Australian market," Carl Lowenborg, co-Founder and co-CEO at nexwave,
"He's done the work at scale, he's respected inside Microsoft, and he brings a practical, delivery-first view of AI that matches ours. With Stefan setting technical direction and Lachlan leading the practice, we have the leadership to compete for the largest Microsoft cloud and AI programs in the country."
nexwave launched in July 2025 and holds Microsoft Solutions Partner designations for Data & AI (Azure) and Digital & App Innovation (Azure), along with a Specialist designation in Analytics. The firm said Wright's arrival is expected to deepen its offerings across Azure, Microsoft Foundry, GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio.
nexwave was highly commended in the techpartner.news 2026 Impact Awards for migrating Workskil Australia's reporting and analytics environment from Azure Synapse Analytics to Microsoft Fabric in a compressed timeframe, while sustaining validation rigour.
