NEC Australia and Hayden AI have announced a partnership to bring advanced vision artificial intelligence technology for automated bus lane, and bus stop enforcement to Australia and New Zealand.

The partnership aims to enhance road safety, public transport reliability, and sustainability across the region using Hayden AI's flagship bus lane enforcement product.

A spokesperson for NEC said the AI powered image recognition technology can be offered to any operator in Australia and New Zealand.

Currently, NEC Australia is conducting trials with the Hayden AI system.

The partnership combines NEC Australia's extensive experience in smart transport technology solutions with Hayden AI's innovative platform for enforcing bus lane, bus stop, cycle lane, and double-parking regulations.

The technology has already shown promising results in other parts of the world, including New York City, where it led to a five per cent increase in bus lane speeds and a 20 precent  reduction in collisions.

"This groundbreaking technology aligns strongly with NEC's wider strategy in leveraging AI to develop solutions for our customers to help them provide safer, more efficient and more reliable services," Mark Messenger who heads up NEC's Smart Transport division for Australia and New Zealand said.

On top of increased safety for riders, Hayden AI founder and chief executive Chris Carson said the technology can improve bus transport reliability and reduce emissions as well.

The technology is expected to address critical issues such as keeping dedicated transit zones and cycle lanes clear of parking violations, and reducing double parking that obstructs roadways.

NEC Australia provides a range of technology solutions to transport operators, from smart ticketing to real-time mapping, sees this partnership as a key step in its commitment to leveraging AI for mobility solutions.
