Digital61 to deliver IT environment for Net Zero Economy Agency

Fast50 firm Digital61 has been chosen to create a secure and scalable IT infrastructure for Australia's newly established Net Zero Economy Agency (NZEA), expanding the company's growing footprint in the clean energy sector.

Digital61's contract was awarded in October last year, but this month it was increased from the original $1.383 million to $2.179 million.

The Canberra-based government IT services provider secured the contract through a competitive tender process to deliver a comprehensive suite of managed services that comply with strict federal security and operational requirements.

"We're honoured to support the Net Zero Economy Agency in its foundational phase," Marty Holden, chief executive of Digital61, said.

NZEA is charged with guiding Australia's transition to clean energy.

The agency will use Digital61's modular VelocityOps framework which is designed to enable rapid deployment, scalability and government-grade assurance.

The engagement builds upon Digital61's existing work with the Clean Energy Regulator (CER), where the firm has already delivered outcomes including modernisation of ICT environments.

Key components of the solution include a secure cloud-first IT environment, modern identity and access management (IAM) using Microsoft Azure Active Directory, and secure cloud gateway integration.

Digital61 will also provide end-user compute and device management services to support a hybrid workforce, alongside secure networking foundations to facilitate inter-agency collaboration.

A managed Security Operations Centre (SOC) will deliver proactive threat detection, compliance monitoring, and incident response aligned with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM).

Currently under implementation, the solution will enable NZEA to rapidly onboard staff, operate across multiple locations, and securely collaborate with other government bodies.

"Our vision is to be the digital partner of choice for agencies driving Australia's energy transformation," Holden said.
