VMware appoints ex-EMC figure Mirchandani
Sanjay Mirchandani

VMware will replace outgoing Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) senior vice president and general manager Andrew Dutton with Sanjay Mirchandani on October 14.

Dutton is retiring, but VMware said he would partner with the new Mirchandani for the remainder of the year to facilitate a smooth transition of leadership.

The VMware footprint in the APJ region now includes more than 55,000 customers, with a workforce of around 3,700 employees across about 50 local offices and a network of about 10,000 partners.

VMware president and chief operating officer Carl Eschenbach said: “Sanjay Mirchandani is taking over at an exciting stage of VMware’s progress in APJ, which is our fastest-growing geographical region. A substantial opportunity lies ahead for VMware in this part of the world. Sanjay’s rich experience as an IT and business veteran – as well as his deep understanding of Asia Pacific markets – will build on the hugely successful contribution made by Andrew.”

Mirchandani brings 25 years of international business, IT and consultancy experience, including 11 years spent in Asia Pacific. He joins VMware from EMC where he started in 2006, and where he most recently served as executive vice president, global enterprise services.

Mirchandani held the roles of both CIO and COO at EMC, as well as president of EMC’s emerging markets and international development, where he championed global growth opportunities with a focus on rapidly growing markets.
