ASX-listed technology solutions provider ReadyTech has unveiled plans to become one of Tasmania's largest tech employers through the expansion of its Launceston operations.
The company has launched its Centre of Excellence in Tasmania's first mass timber high-rise building, building on its 20-year presence in the state.
"Over the past two decades, we've steadily grown our Tasmanian-based team, which plays a pivotal role in supporting our operations building world-class technology products for businesses in Australia and around the world," Chris Smith, ReadyTech's head of strategy and innovation said.
The company currently employs 40 staff in Tasmania, representing eight per cent of its global workforce, with ambitions to double this number.
Tasmania's tech sector generated $1.7 billion in revenue in 2020-21, with nearly 10,000 workers employed in the industry, according to a 2022 Deloitte Access Economics report.
The new Centre of Excellence will focus on developing capabilities in software engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, product management and cybersecurity.
ReadyTech plans to collaborate with the University of Tasmania and TasTAFE to create tailored education and training programmes addressing specific tech skills gaps.
"Through our Centre of Excellence, we'll be supporting more Tasmanians to build the skills they need to enter and advance in the tech industry with re-skilling initiatives and alternate pathways for people from diverse backgrounds," Smith said.
"Tasmania is carving out a future as a hub of creative, innovative and high-demand jobs in tech, and our vision is to contribute to growing the state's tech industry," ReadyTech co-founder and chief executive Marc Washbourne said.
The company's new headquarters occupies space in what architects Terroir describe as one of Australia's first net-zero carbon projects.
