The NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) is seeking feedback from IT partners on the availability, suitability and viability of a potential internet voting solution.
The solution will be used by up to 4000 electors who are blind or have low vision at the 2027 NSW state general election, with possible use at subsequent local government elections.
The state previously used internet voting system iVote in the 2011, 2015 and 2019 general elections before it was discontinued by the electoral commissioner.
A November 2023 review into the use of internet voting recommended its re-introduction for electors who are blind or have low vision.
In a request for information (RFI) published on 12 January, NSWEC said it is seeking information from IT partners with experience in internet voting solutions to help the agency assess if a predominantly off-the-shelf solution is available in market.
Partners must demonstrate their capability to deliver an internet voting solution that meets functional requirements including election management, voter registration, vote casting and verification, as well as election assurance and reporting.
After evaluating all RFI responses, NSWEC may conduct a subsequent procurement process calling for IT partners to provide a solution or enter into pre-contractual negotiations with one or more IT partners.
The RFI closes on 12 February 2024.
