Logicalis reports good progress on its sustainability targets

Global technology service provider Logicalis has announced substantial advancements towards its sustainability goals in its Responsible Business Report 2024.

The company reported a 27 per cent reduction in scope 1 emissions and a 17 per cent decrease in market-based scope 2 emissions since the 2022 financial year.

These achievements come on the heels of Logicalis having its net-zero emissions targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) earlier this year.

The results contribute to the company's ambitious goal of reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2030, with scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions aligned to reach net-zero by 2050 or sooner.

Recognising that its environmental impact extends beyond direct operations, Logicalis is working to ensure that 85 per cent of its suppliers by spend, covering purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets by 2028.

The company is also tackling scope 3 emissions by promoting low-carbon travel and commuting.

In partnership with climate group RouteZero, Logicalis' pilot programme achieved a 42 per cent reduction in group travel emissions in FY24 for a test group of 50 employees. The company plans to extend these smart travel choice platforms across its global operations.

"We believe that organisations like ours have a vital role to play in addressing climate change," Bob Bailkoski, chief executive of Logicalis, said, on the company's commitment to addressing climate change.

"We are proud of the proactive steps that we have taken, we're evolving into the responsible business we envisioned and will continue to strive for better outcomes for all our stakeholders through increasingly responsible business practices," Bailkoski said.

Logicalis has also made significant progress towards its target of switching 75 per cent of global operations to renewable energy by 2025 and 100 per cent by 2030.

In FY24, 11 operations across the UK, Germany, Spain, and Australia transitioned to renewable energy sources.

Further operations in Portugal, Germany, Ireland, and the Channel Islands are set to make the switch in the coming year.

Charissa Jaganath, head of responsible business at Logicalis, acknowledged the challenges of reducing emissions while driving commercial growth but reaffirmed the company's commitment to sustainability.

"We understand that there is an urgent need to reduce damage to our planet, which is why we regularly assess our progress to ensure we are on the right track and maintaining momentum," Jaganath said.

As part of its broader responsible business initiatives, Logicalis invested over US$500,000 between FY22 and FY24 to support community projects, many focused on improving access to STEM education and technology skills for women and minority groups.

These efforts benefited 1,400 people globally in 2024.

The company also invested US$1.9 million in employee career development, training, and accreditations, including mandatory environmental, social, and governance (ESG) training for all employees.

This training equipped staff with practical steps to contribute to Logicalis' ESG goals.

The full Logicalis Responsible Business Report 2024 is available on the company's website, providing a comprehensive overview of its sustainability efforts and future commitments.
