Next Capital is set to acquire Fujitsu’s Australian data centre business, comprising of five data centres across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Next Capital is an independent private equity firm, focused on growth opportunities primarily in Australia and New Zealand.
Fujitsu said the transaction enables it to further invest in the technology services where customer demand is growing fastest - in Australia, that means helping organisations modernise critical systems, strengthen cyber resilience, adopt sovereign AI, and access the high-performance and quantum computing capabilities needed for their next phase of transformation.
Customer arrangements, along with existing data centre employees, will transfer to the new business at completion, with the transition managed jointly by Fujitsu and Next Capital. The deal is expected to close later this year, and until then Fujitsu will operate the facilities as usual.
Fujitsu will also remain a customer of the data centre business.
“This transaction enables us to focus our investment on what we do best: helping customers modernise critical systems, improve cyber resilience and accelerate digital transformation,” said Peter Grassi, CEO of Fujitsu in Oceania.
“It also allows us to invest more deeply in emerging technologies such as sovereign AI, high-performance computing and quantum computing. This strengthens our ability to support customers in Australia through their next phase of growth and transformation.”
