German vendor IGEL Technology is bringing its latest entry-level thin client device to the Australian channel.
The UD2 series is powered with a 1.46 GHz single core Intel Atom Bay Trail processer, with 2GB DDR3L RAM and Intel HD graphics. The device is designed for dedicated access to virtualised desktops with Citrix HDX, Microsoft RemoteFX or VMware Horizon. IGEL boasts considerably lower power-usage, consuming five watts of power in operation.
The device is distributed locally through both of its Australian distributors, Exclusive Networks and Connector Systems.
IGEL says the channel has already showed demand for the UD2, with New Zealand wholesaler JA Russell rolling it out across its 67 retail stores and offices.
Shane Lewis, procurement manager for reseller Blue Apache, said one of the benefits of rolling out UD2 was its cost-effectiveness to small organisations with end point management for VDI solutions.
“A second benefit is the longevity that clients can expect - IGEL and Blue Apache continue to support the Universal Desktop series for five years on both hardware and software,” said Lewis.
Dominic Whitehand, ANZ managing director of Exclusive Networks, added: “IGEL has introduced what is essentially a powerful, versatile device that is well-equipped for modern business uses, at an entry-level price.”A spokersperson for Connector Systems said: “The new UD2 has been eagerly anticipated by many of our partners for a while now. We have some very large projects that will now go ahead. Customers have recognised the UD2 represents incredible value for such a powerful device.”
The UD2 series will launch in mid-June with pricing yet to be confirmed.
