Data#3 has won a multimillion-dollar contract with Brisbane Airport as the company continues to step away from government contracts and focus on the enterprise space.
The Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) services 29 airlines from two terminals and has been ranked by the ACCC as the number one airport for quality of service for nine consecutive years.
Under the "multi-year, multimillion-dollar outsourcing agreement", Data#3 will provide service desk, desktop, server and infrastructure support; network management, VoIP and telephone support; as well as database management.
Laurence Baynham, group general manager at Data#3, said the deal would help BAC "focus on their core business as opposed to focussing on their IT operations. There are aspects of the IT operation they would consider to be non-core."
Baynham said the value of the deal was confidential.
He added that large IT providers are struggling to make a decent profit in the Queensland public sector.
"The public sector business and state government business has not been a growth area for any organisation in IT. There's a number of large-scale tenders, but the actual IT spend has not increased.
"We made a deliberate move to focus on commercial organisations. We're also looking at continuing our work with many other Queensland corporate customers."
Data#3 recently underwent a restructure that involved downsizing from five areas of specialisation to three to cut costs and streamline customer service. The move included some redundancies due to the consolidation of its administrative divisions.
The company employs 641 permanent staff and generated $771 million in revenue for the last financial year.
