Thomas Duryea Consulting has been in the headlines this year with Windows 10 success stories, but the close relationship with Microsoft goes all the way back to the solution provider’s roots in rolling out enterprise PC fleets last decade.
“They have been a mainstay of our vendor portfolio,” Thomas Duryea national general manager Michael Chanter tells CRN.
The solutions provider, founded in 2000, was also a pioneer for VMware in this country. “There was a period there when VMware was a strong player and we were really the first to market in bringing VMware around Australia. We really built a reputation off our abilities there.”
Chanter said that although TD has a dedicated director of alliances to manage the relationships, many vendors have room to reduce bureaucracy for their channel.
“Keep it simple. Vendors sometimes overcomplicate the requirements or make things dependent on too many factors,” he said. “We have more than 110 go-to-markets with different technologies and it can become burdensome trying to deal with really complex programmatic requirements. Some vendors might have a program requirement on every product!”
Dell has had “great success and traction” with TD customers in recent times. And with security becoming a bigger focus, the solution provider’s newest vendors include Palo Alto Networks and Secunia.

Notes on methodology
The CRN MVP program recognises Australia's top IT providers by measuring their value and versatility based on third-party vendor accreditations across 12 eligible vendors: Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Citrix Systems, Dell, EMC, HP (incl Aruba), IBM, Intel (incl McAfee), Lenovo, Microsoft, Symantec and VMware.
Only eligible vendors listed above. Only Gold-equivalent partner levels are included. CRN MVP companies may have accreditations with other, ineligible vendor programs or lower-level accreditations with eligible vendors (for example, we do not list silver accreditations).
We expect the list of eligible vendors to change in coming years, which may open up the CRN MVP program to new entrants.
For further information on the CRN MVP program, see this article.
We are currently accepting expressions of interest for the 2016 CRN MVPs at www.techpartner.news/MVP. Entries will open in coming months.
