Data#3 appoints managed solutions chief
Data#3 has appointed Sue Carter as general manager of managed solutions, overseeing several hundred people and helming a division at the forefront of the company's push into cloud services. Carter, who replaces Pat Murphy, has "extensive experience in running large operations" and "deep understanding of sales and delivery of large outsource contracts", according to Data#3 group general manager Laurence Baynham. She has previously held senior leadership positions at Unisys, Fujitsu, and CMC.

Data#3 scores cloud contract in Queensland
Data#3 has announced a cloud contract win with one of the largest Queensland-based law firms. The "multi-year" agreement is with McInnes Wilson Lawyers, which has more than 200 staff and offices in Brisbane, Southport, Maroochydore and an affiliate office in Sydney.

Data#3 "very disappointed" in downbeat performance
Data#3 has reported a decline in profit and earnings for the first half of the year, blaming the result on "challenging" marketing conditions. The reseller today reported that revenue was down 1.8 percent in the first half of the 2014 financial year to $399 million, compared with the same period the previous year. Net profit after tax was down 62 percent to $2.6 million.

Data#3 founding director retires
Data#3 has announced the retirement of one of its founding directors, Mark Esler, after 30 years of service for the ASX-listed reseller. "Thirty years is a life’s work and Mark leaves confident of a bright future for the company to enjoy time with his family," said managing director John Grant in a statement. "He can quite rightly feel very proud of his achievements."

Data#3 bets big on hybrid future
Data#3 is preparing to reveal a hybrid cloud solution to help customers manage on-premise, outsourced and public cloud infrastructure. The launch is expected in the coming months, Data#3 cloud solutions manager John Griffin told CRN at the reseller's Brisbane JuiceIT event. Hybrid IT was also the theme of the conference, which took place in Brisbane on 2 April following events in Perth on 13 March and Adelaide on 25 March.

Data#3 reveals $2.5m bid for Sydney wi-fi firm
Data#3 today revealed a proposal to acquire Sydney integrator-turned-wi-fi analytics provider Discovery Technology. Next month, Data#3 plans to exercise an initial option to secure a minority stake in the Frenchs Forest firm, expected to cost $2.5 million. The massive Brisbane integrator is currently doing due diligence on the investment with the ability to extend this to full ownership by 2017.

Data#3 clinches $19m Microsoft win for Defence
Data#3 has won a $19.1 million contract to supply Microsoft software to be used in support of major IT projects by the Australian Department of Defence. The software will be predominantly used in support of the Defence Single Information Environment program, a key plank in Defence's plan to "radically reform" ICT delivery.

Data#3 reaps best-ever sales but margins hammered
Data#3 has reaped its highest-ever revenues but the cost of doing so squeezed net profit after tax to the lowest point since 2005. The Brisbane-headquartered ICT giant reported full-year revenues of $833.6 million for the 12 months to 30 June 2014, a rise of $62.6 million or 8.1 percent on the previous year.

Data#3 acquires $14m IT consulting firm
Data#3 will spend up to $12 million to acquire its consulting partner Business Aspect Group, the Brisbane IT giant revealed this week. The deal includes a $6 million cash payment, as well as up to a further $3 million in cash and $3 million in shares, subject to the performance of Business Aspect Group over two years.

Local service providers Data#3 and Zettagrid are the first Asia-Pacific resellers to sign up as Veeam Cloud Provider (VCP) partners. Laurence Baynham, group general manager, Data#3, said partnering with the backup software vendor "places Data#3 in a strong position to meet our customers’ increasing cloud infrastructure, back-up and archiving demands".

Data#3’s John Grant will step down as managing director of the biggest Australian IT service provider at the end of next year, with deputy Laurence Baynham appointed CEO today. A leading figure in the Australian IT channel, Grant’s departure comes after 18 years as managing director at Data#3 and 34 years at the company.
