Vocus has completed its acquisition of TPG Telecom's (TPG) fibre assets and enterprise, government and wholesale business for an enterprise value of A$5.25 billion.
The deal was first announced back in October 2024.
This investment combines Vocus’ existing footprint across Australia with TPG’s entire fibre network infrastructure and enterprise and government fixed customer base.
Vocus will now operate more than 50,000km of owned fibre, nearly 15,000km of global submarine cables and close to 20,000 connected buildings.
This includes Vision Network’s wholesale residential broadband reach, with assets in major capital cities of Canberra, Ballarat, Mildura, and Geelong, supporting Vocus’ growing consumer and NBN wholesale business.
Vocus will now commence the integration of teams, network assets, products, and solutions into its systems, which the company said is expected to deliver significant synergies and customer benefits, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting future growth to drive competition in the sector.
TPG will retain its mobile radio network infrastructure, consumer and EG&W mobile business, as well as its consumer and small office/home office commercial fixed business.
Vocus and TPG have also entered a long-term strategic partnership providing TPG with ongoing access to Vocus’ fibre infrastructure, delivering enduring network planning and access certainty.
Beyond the expanded terrestrial fibre network, Vocus has added the PPC-1 submarine cable from Sydney to Guam, providing connectivity into the US, to a growing network of submarine cables spanning nearly 15,000km that today includes the Australia Singapore Cable, North-West Cable system and Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore system.
Vocus CEO Andrés Irlando said with digital infrastructure driving the modern economy, growth and innovation, this investment gives Vocus the scale and reach to deliver a better and broader suite of products and services, increasing competition in a sector which is critical for Australia’s future.
"Completion of this acquisition also affirms and strengthens Vocus’ role as a key digital infrastructure operator in Australia, serving the Enterprise, Government, and Wholesale sector. Customers are the biggest winners in this deal," he said.
