AI and cloud consultancy LAB3, which describes itself as Australia's largest privately owned Microsoft specialised consultancy, has appointed John Gavallas to lead the next evolution of its managed service practice.
Gavallas has more than 20 years in the managed services game. He previously established the Azure Managed Services practice at Mexia before expanding the capability into Deloitte Australia's Cloud Operate division following the company's acquisition.
Most recently, he founded an agentic AI operations startup focused on transforming how managed services are delivered.
"The traditional, headcount-heavy model of managed services is broken,” Gavallas said.
“The future isn't outsourcing more people. It's deploying intelligent agents that automate repetitive operations, augment expert teams and deliver better outcomes at scale.”
"His track record modernising IT operations and pioneering Agentic AI capabilities aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of Managed Services," LAB3’s chief executive, Kerry Purcell, said.
"Together, we're helping organisations harness AI to deliver faster outcomes, stronger security and greater operational efficiency."
In 2024, LAB3 signed a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft, aimed at expanding the adoption of the tech giant's generative artificial intelligence capabilities in the broader Australia-New Zealand and Asian markets.
