In another sign of Telstra and Optus' growing credentials as IT service providers, both telcos have teamed with Cisco to deliver cloud services in Australia.
The Telstra partnership sees the carrier become the first in the world to deploy Cisco's cloud platform. The "intelligent network enabled cloud" will be available by the end of this year.
The "first of a kind deployment" will see Telstra and Cisco built the cloud platform together, with Telstra investing in Cisco's Evolved Services Platform.
CRN understands cloud teams from both organisations will work alongside on the project. Cisco will be involved in the implementation and management of the platform.
"The Cisco relationship allows us to offer deeper and broader service capabilities to help our customers manage their critical applications, making the transition to the cloud simpler and more cost effective,” said Telstra's global enterprise & services executive director for cloud, Erez Yarkoni.
The announcement adds another feather to Telstra's business services. Earlier this year the telco revealed its Network Applications and Services (NAS) division is now a $821 million business.
Meanwhile, Optus has announced it will become the first telco in Australia to offer a contact centre as a service using Cisco's hosted collaboration technology. It's the first such deal win Cisco in Australia.
The service will allow 'pay-per-agent-per-month’ billing and there will be a mobile client for tablets and phones. Optus will also offer design and consulting services around the service.
