Telstra launches Dynamic 5G application slice for Microsoft Teams

Telstra has launched a dedicated Dynamic 5G video application slice compatible with Microsoft Teams, designed to optimise performance of Teams calls over fixed wireless access.

The capability targets enterprise customers at sites where network demand fluctuates or spikes - such as retail store networks or construction sites - and gives them a committed throughput slice reserved for Teams video traffic.

The launch extends Telstra's Dynamic 5G Fixed Wireless platform, which the carrier introduced last year with dedicated network slices, committed throughput and online performance reporting for eligible enterprise customers.

Dynamic 5G uses a pay-for-performance model, meaning customers are only charged the slice usage fee when the agreed committed performance level has been met.

The new Teams-specific slice is the first commercially available application-specific slice for the Dynamic 5G platform, the company said, and forms part of Telstra's broader Network as a Product strategy - a model based on ongoing feature releases rather than discrete product generations.

Telstra said it plans to add further application-specific slices to the fixed wireless platform, with mobile handheld application network slicing to follow in later releases.

"With this Dynamic 5G video application slice, we're helping make that experience more consistent, which can help customers get even more out of their video calls, even in high-demand environments."
