They may have fallen out of fashion in recent years but the tech sector’s old guard still occupy an exalted status at the top of the Forbes rich list, while new comers from the dotcom sector are racing up the rankings.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Oracle founder and CEO Larry Ellison are comfortably anchored in the top 10 with $US67 billion ($A65.6 billion) and $US43 billion respectively.
Google founders Sergy Brin and Larry Page are closing in with roughly $US23 billion a piece (actually Larry has $US200M more than Serg, who is obviously having more fun with his money) while Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, is doing a little better than both of them at $US25 billion, the same as Michael Dell and Microsoft pioneers Steve “I’ve-never-honestly-thrown-a-chair-in-my-life” Ballmer and Paul Allen.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg meanwhile is sitting well back in the pack on a comparatively modest $US13 billion.
Rounding out the list of top 10 tech billionaires is Azim Premji, the chairman of Indian IT powerhouse Wipro at $11 billion.
