Tech Data to launch ‘Shop’ online ordering platform in November

Tech Data has quietly tested a local implementation of its “Shop” online ordering platform and says it will be launched in Australia in November.

Shop is a channel-only e-commerce platform that the company runs in other countries.

Tech Data Australia has worked to adapt it for local use since February 2018.

At launch it will offer products from the majority of Tech Data Australia’s 40 vendors. At the company’s not-quite-Christmas-yet “Celebration” lunch in Sydney today, general manager for Australia Wendy O'Keeffe said Shop has been tested with Apple and Dell products and has seen orders pass from the web to warehouse picks in just 20 minutes.

O’Keeffe also said that Tech Data will soon look to expand the range of vendors with which it works and will soon offer lead-generation services for its reseller partners. Those changes will come in addition to the recently introduced StreamOne cloud marketplace.

The company is also on the cusp of launching “Maverick”, a brand it uses for professional audio-visual kit in other territories. Ingram veteran Andrew Upshon recently joined Tech Data to head that business.
