T Data parts ways with FalconStor
Tough times in the marketplace have forced distributor, T Data to remove Falconstor’s range of storage management software products from its books.

T Data signed on to distribute Falconstor’s products two years ago.

John Buchanan, director at T Data said it will no longer distribute Falconstor’s range of storage management software products for disk, tape and SAN products because they were aimed at the mid-market which was not an area of focus for the distributor.

“We have had to readjust the company’s strategy in terms of our vendors. We are no longing dealing in the same space as Falconstor and are focused on the lower end SMB market,” said Buchanan.

“I think margins are under extreme stress [in the market] and what we have done is respond by aligning our products to smaller dealers with SMB customers.”

Buchanan said the two companies parted amicably. T Data had no problems with the product because “they were good products, but relatively complex in terms of technology”.

T Data has no further plans to cut its existing vendors, which includes; AccuSoft Enterprises, BakBone Software, Digi International, Exabyte, Fujitsu, Inside Out Networks, MiLAN, Procera Networks, Quovadx, Raining Data Corporation, Tandberg Data and Yosemite Technologies, said Bucahnan.

However, Buchanan said Tandberg’s recent purchase of Exabyte means the distributor will be dealing with one company instead of two. “All of these vendors fit into the SMB space and Tandberg will be our key vendor,” he said.

Buchanan also said as part of the company’s new strategy was to streamline its staff.

“We just felt that two sales staff members were no longer needed so we made them redundant and another sales person resigned. They were looking after storage vendors in general,” he said.

T Data now have nine employees working full time in its office in Sydney.
