Synnex Australia cloud market adds Megaport

Synnex Australia has announced interconnection provider Megaport as the newest vendor to hop onto its cloud marketplace.

Megaport's elastic interconnection platform featuring cloud network services, Virtual Cross Connect and Internet Exchange services have been added to the distributor's Cloud Automation Platform as of today.

"We are pleased to partner with Synnex to empower their channel partners with industry-leading interconnection capabilities," said Megaport chief executive Denver Maddux.

The new services allow Synnex resellers to instantly turn on and off connections between data centres that are Megaport-connected, which include Equinix, NextDC and Global Switch facilities.

Geographically, data centres in the 'Megaport Fabric' currently exist in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, as well as Auckland, Hong Kong, Singapore and North America. Megaport is expected to add European data centres to the network in the future.

"Using our power portal or API, customers can provision direct connectivity to our broad ecosystem of service providers in less than 60 seconds," said Maddux.

Synnex Australia chief executive Kee Ong said the Megaport offerings would allow dedicated connections for a variety of cloud services, including "Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services".

"The benefits to the end client are lower latency, faster access and secure connections to the cloud on a pay-as-you-go model."

For extra security on Express Route connections into the Microsoft cloud, partners can also deploy Barracuda NextGen Firewall F, said Synnex Australia ecommerce & cloud services general manager Michael Tea.

"With the recent appointment of Synnex to the Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider program and the Megaport partnership, we will offer secure connections using the Megaport API’s to Express Route for Office 365 and Azure services on a monthly subscription model," he said.

Megaport, which started operating in January 2014, uses software-defined networking to dial up and down the connection needed between a customer's network and external data clouds. The bandwidth can be adjusted instantly through a mobile phone, tablet, PC or an open API.

"The ability for enterprises to take control of their cloud connectivity in a real-time fashion simplifies the adoption of public and hybrid cloud architectures," said Megaport's Maddux.

Megaport joins gaming specialist Razer, accounting software provider MYOB, point-of-sale manufacturer NCR, marketing automation company Act-On, backup and DR vendor Barracuda and audio accessory specialist Jabra in a long list of vendor signings for Synnex this year.
