Sydney Cisco school supplier winds up, owes $300k to Westcon

Sydney Cisco Catholic school supplier Efficient Data Communications (EDC) will be wound up, owing approximately $298,000 to Westcon Group.

Creditors voted to wind up the company at a second creditors meeting on 5 May, with Andrew Cummins of BRI Ferrier appointed liquidator.

The decision to wind up EDC followed an earlier submission of a deed of company proposal by director Andrew Lowy, which was later withdrawn.

Minutes of the creditors meeting show $298,000 owed to Westcon Group, proof of which has been received by administrators. According to the minutes, figures submitted by the director show Ingram Micro is owed $20,000 and Dicker Data is owed $2,595, but those figures are yet to be confirmed by the administrator.

Efficient Data Communications was previously a key IT supplier to Sydney Catholic schools, having undertaken a wireless rollout to 75 schools for the Catholic Education Office of Parramatta about 10 years ago. The company was first registered more than 17 years ago.

The Cisco partner went into voluntary administration on 14 April, with information previously submitted by the director showing the company could owe approximately $1.38 million to unsecured creditors and approximately $420,000 to a secured creditor. At the time, the administrator was still looking into the size of the debt.

Prior to the administrator’s appointment, Westcon commenced an application on 2 April to have the company wound up. Efficient Data Communications ceased trading prior to the administrator’s appointment, according to the administrator.

Spokespeople from Westcon and Ingram Micro declined to comment when contacted by CRN. CRN has previously contacted Lowy, who declined to comment.
