Staples, the rebadged Corporate Express, is understood to be in difficulty, with sources indicating the office products and distribution giant has lost close to 30 local staff members over the last few months.
Staples was yet to respond to numerous requests for comment at the time of publication.
The reason for a staff exodus is unclear, however sources indicate that recent management changes may be to blame.
Almost a year ago, Staples appointed industry veteran Karl Sice as its Australian GM of technology solutions. Sice was formerly A/NZ boss of data recovery specialist Acronis.
The US-based Staples acquired 59 percent of global office supplies and stationery company Corporate Express in 2008. Two years later the company purchased the remaining shares, and the combined entity was rebranded as Staples in October 2012.
The new Staples-branded entity has added 2000 own-branded product items, and has begun to aggressively chase the mid-market. It has also introduced managed print solutions, along with license management, technology lifecycle management, and professional services, with the idea being Staples will be a single-source supplier.
