Sophos beefs up sales team with four appointments

IT security firm Sophos is beefing up its sales team, appointing 20 year IT veteran David Sykes as its sales director for Australia and New Zealand and strengthening its channel team with the appointment of a new partner manager and two new channel account executives.

The expansion of the team looks set to continue. "We are actively looking for talented people skilled in sales, sales engineer and channel roles to join a global leading IT security company at an incredibly exciting time,” according to general manager of Sophos Australia and New Zealand, Ashley Wearne.

Sykes has a strong IT security pedigree having worked at companies such as Computer Associates, Symantec and McAfee in the past. Prior to joining Sophos, he was the South East Asia director at Crossbeam Systems where he was responsible for supporting sales and operations.

Wearne, to whom Sykes will report, said sales are growing as more customers understand the value of simple security solutions following trends around BYOD, remote working and cloud adoption.

"A huge component of ensuring we keep this momentum is building a strong, formidable sales team – and David’s extensive experience in the IT security market, as well as industry contacts, will be vital, " said Wearne.

Joining Sykes at Sophos are new partner manager Vikas Uberoy who has had previous stints at Trend Micro and Juniper Networks along with two new channel account execs, Robert Thomson and Michael Klohk.
