SMBiT Professionals, Australia's peak body for small and medium business IT providers, said it has joined the steering committee at Dynamic Standards International, to help develop the latter organisation's cybersecurity certification.
In doing so, SMBit Professionals will contribute to the SMB1001 certification standard, bringing expertise from its network of IT service providers.
The appointment is a step forward for Australian small business cybersecurity, with SMBiT joining representatives from major organisations including the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), Telstra, and Deloitte.
"We are honoured to join the steering committee for the SMB1001 standard with Dynamic Standards International," SMBiT Professionals chief executive Wayne Small said.
"This is a key step toward securing the SMB sector from evolving cyber threats, and we are excited to be a part of this future-focused initiative," Small added.
Small brings more than 25 years of experience in small business IT to the role, where he will help shape standards covering risk management, data protection, incident response, and access control.
"Our members understand the challenges SMBs face in implementing robust cybersecurity measures, and they bring valuable, real-world expertise that will help shape a standard that is both accessible and effective," said Small.
DSI, which recently expanded internationally from its Australian origins, developed the certification in response to growing demand for accessible cybersecurity solutions for small businesses worldwide.
"Our expert steering committee is critical to the development of our dynamic cybersecurity certification standard and ensuring it is fit-for-purpose and relevant to the current and emerging threat landscape," said DSI co-founder Professor Ryan Ko.
The committee includes members from 15 organisations across public and private sectors, including the Australian Digital Health Agency, CyberCX, and the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore.
This partnership strengthens SMBiT's position as a leader in cybersecurity, while helping shape standards that will protect small businesses as they face evolving digital threats.
