Simply Wireless joins SkyNetGlobal channel

ASX-listed wireless broadband vendor SkyNetGlobal has allied with WLAN design, deployment and management company Simply Wireless to push wireless connectivity to Australian SMBs.

The companies said the strategic alliance would allow Simply Wireless to offer SkyNetGlobal's connector and WiFi pre-paid service via the latter's 1000 hotspots worldwide. SkyNetGlobal also gets to offer its customers access to Simply Wireless' business wireless networking portfolio.

Desmond O'Geran, CEO at Simply Wireless, said bundling SkyNetGlobal remote access services would improve the portability of its business wireless range.

'Our enterprise or in-office wireless packages will provide our customers with wireless internet wherever they are - on the road via hotspots, at work or in the home,' O'Geran said.

Jonathan Soon, CEO at SkyNetGlobal, said Simply Wireless specialised in 802.11 and wireless bridging technologies.

'Its established sales force and customer base of WLAN users is expected to generate new revenue streams for SkyNetGlobal quickly,' Soon said.

SkyNetGlobal has been pushing an aggressive growth plan, adding powerline gear and smart home or home automation technologies to its wireless broadband portfolio in recent months.

The company has just announced that its smart home-focused subsidiary, W Home, has signed exclusive broadband access agreements with ten residential buildings in Sydney covering a total 2042 apartments in 100 days.

'Based on the last 100 days, W Home has been able to reach on average 20 apartments per day. Our progress has exceeded our initial expectation, and if we continue to grow at this rate W Home will be substantially ahead of its forecasts,' Soon claimed.

W Home claims it will invest about $110,000 within two months to get its subscription broadband service into Hordern Towers King Street Wharf Apartments at 23 Shelly Street, The Peak Apartments King Street Wharf Apartments at 35 Shelly Street, Victoria Towers King Street Wharf Apartments at 45-49 Shelly Street, Harbour View Towers AEA Grand and Maestri Towers Balmain Shores in Sydney.

In July, the company's Singapore subsidiary unveiled plans to deploy 200 wireless hotspots in Singapore, expected to come online February 2004.

The company signed an exclusive agreement with McDonald's fastfood empire in that nation to build 140 wireless hotspots targeting diners at the restaurant and will roll out up to 60 more hotspots using that network, outside the city in business and industrial parks, SkyNetGlobal said at the time.
