The multi-million dollar contract, plus an option for three one-year extensions, is to provide the network infrastructure to support DETA’s campaign to modernise its educational environment.
3Com will supply of all the current and future technology in 3Com’s portfolio, including its enterprise-grade multi-service routers (MSRs), unified communications platform and IP video solutions.
Students and teachers in Queensland will benefit from unified communications, multimedia learning, and high-speed wireless access from anywhere on campus.
According to Peter Chai, 3Com’s vice president and general manager APAC, (pictured), DETA selected 3Com for its technological sophistication and the support it has provided them for the past decade.
Asked whether 3Com will be taking on any resellers to implement the solution, Chai said: “3Com will be engaging its partner channel for fulfillment, configuration and installation services.
"Current and future 3Com partners have the opportunity to participate in the project.”
The complete converged solution 3Com will provide DETA includes:
MSRs – leveraging 3Com’s Open Services Networking (OSN) architecture to embed the Expand WAN optimization module in the router;
3Com Switch S7900Es – modular core switches.
3Com Switch 5500s – stackable switches.
3Com VCX Connect – SIP-based VoIP platforms that combines standard PBX features and advanced multimedia communications applications.
3Com Wireless Switch Controllers and 802.11n Access Points.
3Com will work with local partners to roll out these solutions over the duration of the new contract.
