Communications integrator NSC and solution provider Stratum Communications have won a contract to deploy an advanced telecommunications interface for Airservices Australia, a government body that provides critical information to pilots passing through Australian airspace.
Sydney-based NSC said it had been selected to oversee and manage Stratum Communications' deployment of an updated automated briefing system, inbound flight plan logging system and automated text to speech (TTS) service for Airservices Australia.
Airservices Australia provides air traffic management, air navigation support such as communications infrastructure, radar and navigation aids, aviation rescue and fire-fighting services to the aviation industry.
NSC and Melbourne-based Stratum would deliver a set of advanced Telecommunications Interfaces for National Aeronautical information processing system applications (TINA) to government-owned corporation Airservices Australia, the company said.
“In delivering TINA, Stratum Communications uses Stratum's VeloCT IVR engine, an interactive transactional IVR using open standard server architecture.
The core infrastructure will be installed in the Airservices facilities in Brisbane with a secondary site in Canberra, both providing services throughout the nation,” NSC said in a statement.
The upgrade would improve Airservices' ability to communicate critical flight plan and meteorological information to civil aircraft. TINA would replace six existing operational services, such as fax services, voice response systems and printing services, NSC said.
Pilots would by linked more directly to the National Aeronautical Information Processing System and would no longer have to manually lodge flight plans, NSC said.
Bureau of Meteorology and an automatic en route information service would be streamed to pilots as required, using TTS, the company said.
