NBN Co previews upcoming wholesale discount bundles for businesses

NBN Co has offered a preview of the new wholesale discounts for fixed line connections aimed at business customers that the company plans to bring out early next year.

The discounts would allow retailer service providers to "deliver significant savings" under the new "Business NBN" banner, which will combine high internet speeds with committed bandwidth and premium service levels, according to NBN Co.

NBN Co was light on the details, but mentioned a few of the new wholesale discount bundles that will be on offer, which includes:

  • Wholesale speeds of 50/20Mbps optimised for smaller businesses;
  • Wholesale speeds of 100/40Mbps with support for multiple phone lines for medium-sized businesses
  • Wholesale symmetrical committed speeds of 20/20Mbps and a 100/40Mbps peak information rate
  • Wholesale symmetrical committed speeds of 50/50Mbps and a 250/100Mbps peak information rate for data-intensive and multi-site organisations

Bundles will include a minimum 12-hour enhanced service level agreement and 24/7 support from NBN Co for RSPs, along with bandwidth increases with larger bundles.

Some bundles will also have the option to install a subsequent line to test applications before connecting to the NBN to help increase service continuity and reduce interruptions.

NBN Co chief customer officer for business Paul Tyler said that service assurance, high speeds and committed bandwidth were the most important factors for businesses connected to the NBN.

“We recognise some businesses are on NBN powered plans that have not been optimised for their needs. Businesses should speak to their service provider about whether they require high-speeds for cloud applications, committed and symmetrical information rates for audio and video conferencing or increased service assurance for business-critical applications," said Tyler.

“NBN Co does not set retail prices, however our new wholesale discount bundles are designed to incentivise retailers to offer these business-grade services to improve customer experience on the network."

According to NBN Co, there are 450,000 businesses connected to NBN's access network, with 20,000 new businesses connecting each month.

NBN Co introduced a new wholesale product called NBN Enterprise Ethernet in October which offers business customers a network operating at symmetrical speeds up to 1Gbps.
