Mercury Technology Solutions founder Luke Halliday named Melbourne Airport CIO

Luke Halliday, who founded Queensland reseller Mercury IT in 2004 when he was just 20 years old, has stepped down from his role of managing director to take up a new position as executive of technology at Melbourne Airport.

Halliday replaced former CIO Paul Bunker, who left the organisation in January.

Halliday will remain on Mercury's board of directors and is still a shareholder, but moved away from daily operations nine months ago.

"Mercury Technology Solutions continues to develop and grow; and I am extremely proud of our team, our initiatives and the vision for our business," he wrote on LinkedIn.

"One thing is certain, it’s you, our clients, and the work you do in your respective industries, that inspires and motivates our team every single day to do the very best work for you. You can be absolutely assured that you will continue to receive quality service and solutions from the Mercury team."

Mercury co-founder Aj Williams will lead the company's project delivery and solution design, while general manager Martin O'Riordan leads administration, finance, customer services and sales. The management team will report to both Williams and O'Riordan.

"I have every confidence in our whole team under the leadership team of Aj and Martin and, as mentioned above, I will continue to guide the business at a strategic level," wrote Halliday.

"Finally, on a personal note, I would like to thank you sincerely for your support of Mercury and your friendship over the years."

Mercury has appeared twice in the CRN Fast50, entering at No.5 in 2010 and No.10 in 2013.

In 2015, Mercury Technology Solutions was rebranded from Mercury IT after leading a merger between two other Queensland resellers, Divest IT and LC9.
