Macquarie Telecom hires former Anchor Hosting chief executive Bart Thomas

Macquarie Telecom's government subsidiary has recruited former Anchor Hosting chief executive Bart Thomas as general manager, government cloud.

Macquarie Government managing director Aidan Tudehope said Thomas' appointment filled a key role in the company's investment program in its government cloud business.

Thomas served as chief executive of Sydney-based Anchor from February 2014 until May this year, when fellow hosting firm Digital Pacific acquired the company. Digital Pacific itself was acquired by US company Deluxe Corp for $52 million in August.

Prior to Anchor, Thomas has also worked in technology management groups for the federal government in both Canberra and Sydney.

"The chance to join Macquarie Government represents an opportunity too good to refuse. The combination of attributes that Macquarie Government has pulled together in its business is completely unique in the government cloud market, and is incredibly exciting," said Thomas

“Macquarie Government has the data centres, infrastructure and customer support only a scale provider can maintain baked in security culture, is proudly Australian owned, and has an obsessive focus on customer satisfaction. It has all these solid scale advantages while still having the flexibility to deeply understand and respond to the needs of Australian government customers."

Macquarie Government specialises in cybersecurity, cloud and data centre solutions for federal government agencies. Last month, Macquarie Telecom become just the third company to achieve Protected accreditation for its government cloud services.

The company revealed plans to invest $3 million in opex and $1.6 million of capex in Canberra to support its government ambitions, citing "strong and growing demand from our federal government agencies for secure cloud, including from tier one agencies like ATO".
