Web hosting provider Digital Pacific acquires managed cloud firm Anchor

Digital Pacific has acquired fellow Sydney firm Anchor Hosting for an undisclosed amount, creating a company with more than 100,000 customers internationally.

Founded in 2000, Anchor has made a name for itself as both a hosting provider as well as an Amazon Web Services partner, supporting global startups such as developer community GitHub and Apple beta testing site TestFlight, as well as Australian customers Booktopia and the Bureau of Meteorology.

Digital Pacific, which uses carrier-grade equipment from Juniper Networks and Cisco, offers a range of internet services, including domain name registrations, hosting, virtual private servers and dedicated servers, with its primary facility in Sydney among five data centres around the globe.

Anchor chief executive Bart Thomas said the acquisition gives the hosting provider additional resources to build on its recent success in managed cloud and DevOps automation.

“Digital Pacific and Anchor have highly complementary skillsets and this acquisition enables Anchor to continue doing what we do best – helping our customers succeed in the new software economy," said Thomas.

"Anchor will continue to deliver managed hosting services for customers, utilising the most appropriate infrastructure technology to meet a customer's needs. There is a strong cultural fit for Anchor with Digital Pacific, and we're very excited to be joining forces and finding new ways to deliver the greatest possible value to our customers."

In 2015, Digital Pacific acquired another Sydney hosting provider and former CRN Fast50 company Crucial. With the addition of Anchor, the combined company’s headcount reaches 100 staff.

Digital Pacific and Anchor will continue to operate under their respective brands, and are actively recruiting for new staff. Digital Pacific moved its staff into Anchor’s larger Sydney office.

Andrew Koloadin, chief executive of Digital Pacific, said he had always admired the technical focus and strength of Anchor’s brand.

“Our company is here to deliver dependable hosting to customers of all size, with the support and management level that suits their requirements,” said Koloadin. “The acquisition of Anchor allows us to expand on our current offering and utilise their extensive experience in managed cloud services."
