Kyocera managing director David Finn claims the company’s printer sales in Australia have “doubled” since April this year, potentially driven by its Porsche sales promotion.
In April, the company launched a sales program that offered reseller staff who achieved the highest aggregate sales for the vendor the opportunity to drive a red Porsche Boxster 987 for a month.
Finn told CRN that earlier this year the company had “lost its way” and “wasn’t focused on dealers”.
In April the company was placed number four with a 6.5 percent share of the laser market, Finn said, citing IDC numbers.
“This time last year we were number two [in lasers] and for various reasons we lost the plot — we had the wrong staff,” he said.
This month, however, the company was placed at number two in the laser printer market rankings, securing an 18 percent share, he said. Its FS-1020D laser printer was the number one seller in Australia, he claimed.
The Porsche promotion was aimed at getting resellers “on board” with the vendor, Finn said. “We went from [having] no resellers that were talking to us, to [having] 860 resellers that we have a one to one relationship with,” he said.
The promotion would be relaunched in the New Year, Finn said. So far, winners have included: David Kutteh from reseller POS Technologies (August and November winner) in Rockdale; Maroun Estephan from ME Business Solutions, NSW (September winner); and Chris Wilcock from MBS Office National in Victoria (October winner).
