KPMG Australia said it has agreed to acquire Chartertech, a national technology and financial solutions firm based in Canberra.

The acquisition will see about 140 specialist technology and accounting staff join KPMG Enterprise, the firm's mid-market business.

This move will expand KPMG's team size and bring new technology capabilities, including expertise in IBM Table Manager 1 Planning Analytics.

Andrew Yates, chief executive of KPMG Australia, called Chartertech "a highly innovative and forward-thinking business".

He said the acquisition represents a significant investment in KPMG's Enterprise business, which focuses on advising emerging, private, family, government and mid-market organisations.

Chartertech specialises in financial advisory, software and technology solutions, helping clients build better finance capability.

The firm has one of Australia's top TechnologyOne practices and offers specialist financial analytics and forecasting capabilities.

Chartertech co-founding directors George Skillin and Michael McRoberts will join KPMG as partners, bringing their team of 140 across five national offices.

Naomi Mitchell, national managing partner of KPMG Enterprise, said Chartertech are trailblazers in finance technology and enterprise planning and forecasting and noted that tech transformation is the top area of demand for mid-market clients.

This move builds on KPMG Australia's strategic expansion into technology enablement, following previous acquisitions of firms specialising in Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft technologies, such as Think180 in February 2023.

The deal is expected to complete in November, subject to conditions being met.

KPMG Australia did not disclose the terms of the acquisition.
