The z10 BC machine is the smaller cousin to the recently announced IBM
z10 EC machine.
According to Geoff Lawrence, A/NZ product manager the mid-market is interested in the product because it ‘provides a machine at an entry point that will allow many medium-sized companies to now consider the financial benefits of the IBM mainframe’.
“Our focus is to work with customers so they understand their real operational
costs of running their IT department and how a consolidated Linux server
could quickly save them a significant amount of money,” said Lawrence.
In Australia and New Zealand customers can get the System z products either
through direct IBM sellers or through its BP community, which is ISI.
There are no current plans to extend the IBM system z into the reseller community.
System z10 BC is applicable to all markets and IBM is working with customers in Australia who are consolidating 10 to 60 Intel servers.
There is annual software and hardware maintenance and support charges with the products, similar to hardware and software charges.
