HPE will sell everything-as-a-service by 2022, targets mid-market

HPE has pledged to sell its entire portfolio as-a-service by 2022 as it transforms itself into an as-a-service company.

The vendor will continue selling hardware, software and services in capital expenditure and license-based models, but will also offer subscriptions, pay-per-use or managed IT-as-a-service for all of its products.

It shouldn’t come as too much of a shock given the success of HPE GreenLake, the company’s model for providing a public cloud consumption experience on-premises to maintain a “consistent cloud experience for managing workloads.”

GreenLake, which was announced in late 2017, has since become HPE’s fastest growing business with 275 percent channel growth growth year-on-year, totaling $2.8 billion in contracts and 600 customers. GreenLake also has a 99 percent renewal rate, according to HPE.

“We are at an inflection point in the market,” said HPE president and CEO Antonio Neri.

“Everyone recognises that customers want technology delivered as-a-service, but they also want it on their terms. HPE’s unique approach to as-a-service, which empowers customers with choice, flexibility, and control, is driving HPE GreenLake’s tremendous success.”

“We will continue to invest aggressively in this opportunity, to capitalise on our market leadership, leverage our world-class channel and partner ecosystem, and deliver our entire portfolio, from edge to cloud, under the HPE GreenLake portfolio. As a result, we will reshape HPE and transform the market, with a new and better way to deliver as-a-service.”

HPE will also scale GreenLake’s market reach to mid-sized customers with new offerings, services for the edge and expanded partnerships with interconnection partners like Equinix.

First up are two new tools for HPE GreenLake partners to quickly onboard new customers: Quick Quote and Chatbot, which are both exactly what they sound like.

Next is HPE GreenLake for Aruba, offering customers new procurement options for network-as-a-service products including wi-fi, edge switching, security, end-user analytics and experience validation, all of which are available through the channel.

Lastly, HPE has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to offer hybrid cloud solutions for containers, with the choice of as-a-service through GreenLake and professional services from HPE.

All of the aforementioned products and services are available now.
