DTA and University of Queensland launch digital governance research consortium

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) and the University of Queensland have established a research consortium aimed at strengthening digital transformation governance and leadership across the Australian Public Service.

The Consortium for Digital and AI Governance will bring together government, academia and industry to address leadership and governance challenges facing complex digital projects, with a focus on turning research findings into practical tools and frameworks for use across the APS.

The consortium builds on earlier collaborative work through the DTA's Digital Project Research Series.

Research projects will be co-designed with digital leaders, with findings translated into guidance, methods and frameworks intended to improve how complex digital projects are governed and led.

Simon Quarrell, deputy chief executive officer of the Digital Investment Advice and Sourcing Division at the DTA, said the quality of leadership and governance decisions shapes whether digital projects succeed.

"Building a stronger evidence base around those decisions will help us better understand the conditions that support successful digital delivery," Quarrell said.

"That means practical approaches that help digital leaders navigate complexity, make more confident decisions and ultimately deliver better outcomes for people and businesses."

The consortium is currently reviewing potential topics for its first research project.
