The Australian Government has reappointed Chris Fechner as chief executive officer of the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) for a further two years.

Fechner has led the DTA since 2021, a period during which the agency strengthened oversight of major government digital investments and worked to improve coordination across federal agencies.

The DTA said the agency had improved planning, quality, performance and engagement across government during his first term, contributing to Australia placing second in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Digital Government Index this year.

In his renewed role, Fechner will continue to lead the DTA's work to strengthen digital investment oversight and support agencies to deliver what the government described as high-quality, secure and accessible government services.

Last month, the DTA and the Australian Information Industry Association signed a new two-year Memorandum of Understanding. The renewed agreement expands the range of activities the two organisations can undertake together, aiming to provide greater flexibility in how government and industry share expertise across key digital priorities.
