Mobile distributor Cellnet recalled a mobile charger sold via its consumer accessories brand 3Sixt that was bundled with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones.
Cellnet sold the white USB mobile chargers with the model 3S-0639 between July 2016 and February 2018 through "various retailers" in bundles, and individually. A spokesperson clarified that the chargers were bundled by individual stores, not by Samsung.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that the charger's internal fuse could fail in an unsafe manner in some circumstances. This could lead to damage to any connected device, electric shock or injury.
The consumer watchdog warned users to immediately stop using the charger and contact Cellnet or return it to where it was purchased for a replacement.
Cellnet isn't the first distributor that has recalled a portable charger this year. Earlier this month, IT and networking distributor Comsol recalled its 4-port USB travel chargers over electric shock risks.
HP and Lenovo have also recalled laptops and their batteries this month due to fire risk. HP recalled batteries in over 55,000 devices, while Lenovo pulled its flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebooks.
