Western Australian reseller Vizcom Technologies has joined several local channel firms offering software that lets Lync (now called Skype for Business) users call non-Lync users.
Called Acano, the software is also offered in Australia by InSync Technology, Dimension Data, IComm, Communicloud and CoEvolve.
Developed by a UK startup formed in 2012, Acano is a unified communications platform designed to retain the native interface for Lync users, while they talk to users connected via SIP-based voice, desktop video, room, multiscreen telepresence systems, WebRTC and Acano’s native clients.
Acano and Microsoft are holding a joint session on the product for IT executives at Microsoft’s North Ryde headquarters on 6 October.
The product is a way to make the most of their investments in Cisco, Polycom and other platforms, said Acano’s Australia and New Zealand managing director Michael Chetner.
“With the exponential growth with Lync/Skype deployments, we are acting as the ‘network glue’ to retain the features and functionality of each solution,” he told CRN.
Acano’s pitch is that it preserves the experience of different native platforms, whereas traditional integration "typically" compromises functions.
Acano software clients are available for Windows, Mac OSX, iOS, and for users that connect via a browser a WebRTC option. Acano can be deployed on a virtual machine, on an Acano- optimised server or in the cloud.
The latest Australian partner, Vizcom, is a Perth-based company. Vizcom will offer integration and consulting services, including integrating Skype for Business into existing customer video and voice environments.
