The co-founder and group managing director of Aussie Broadband will exit his executive role to pursue a new venture in regional Victoria.
Phillip Britt has announced his retirement from the top job at one of Australia's largest telecommunications companies, effective 28 February 2025.
"I have always been committed to transforming the digital landscape for communities in the Gippsland region," says Britt, who plans to launch Rural Fibre Co, a community-focused venture in his home region.
Brian Maher, the company's current chief executive officer, steps into the expanded role of group chief executive officer from 1 March 2025.
Britt's departure marks the end of a remarkable growth story that began with the formation of Wideband Networks in 2003.
"Phil has been responsible for the rapid growth of Aussie Broadband from a regional ISP to a national telco with a diversified product and customer base," says Adrian Fitzpatrick, chair of Aussie Broadband.
The company evolved through several transformative stages, including a merger with Westvic Broadband in 2008 and successful acquisitions of Over the Wire and Symbio.
Maher brings significant experience to the role, having joined Aussie Broadband in 2019 as chief financial officer and company secretary.
Britt will maintain ties with the company, taking on roles as non-executive director and special technical adviser.
The advisory position comes with an annual fee of $300,000 for an average time commitment of five days per month.
His two-year engagement as technical adviser includes the option for a one-year extension.
The transition occurs as Aussie Broadband continues to strengthen its position in Australia's telecommunications landscape.
Britt's new venture aims to invest in fibre technology for underserved areas of Gippsland.
"I am confident Aussie Broadband will continue to go from strength to strength," says Britt.
The announcement comes as the company implements its new group leadership structure following recent acquisitions.
