Atlassian acquires outage notification provider

Atlassian has acquired US-based website monitoring service startup StatusPage.

The three-year-old company allows users to set up a hosted status page to communicate updates during website or service downtime to either internal staff or external customers.

This frees up call centres by redirecting customers experiencing difficulties to the status page, leaving them to focus on assisting other customers over the phone.

The product is sold as-a-service starting from US$29 per month for up to 250 subscribers, all the way up to US$1,499 per month for large enterprises with a custom subscriber limit.

StatusPage is already integrated into Atlassian's communication product HipChat, and powers Atlassian's status pages for its own websites.

StatusPage also counts Citrix and Intuit among its "thousands" of customers, along with a number of startups and cloud software companies.

Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar said in a blog post that StatusPage would continue to be sold as a standalone product, while the product team works with Atlassian to accelerate its development.

"It may seem counter-intuitive, but internal status pages are just as important as customer facing ones. As companies build and depend on their internal services, internal status pages allow IT and operations departments to efficiently communicate status across the company," said Farquhar

"That’s why StatusPage and Atlassian are a perfect fit. StatusPage furthers Atlassian’s mission to help teams everywhere communicate and collaborate better."

This is Atlassian's first acquisition since the Sydney-headquartered software company went public company in 2015 with a US$5.78 billion market capitalisation.

HipChat and code management tool BitBucket were also brought into Atlassian via acquisitions.
