AMD cuts Synnex as direct distie partner

AMD has cut Synnex as a 'direct elite distributor partner' in Australia and New Zealand under its refreshed Fusion partner program.

Ingram Micro and Avnet have retained direct elite distributor status, AMD Australia and New Zealand country manager Brian Slattery confirmed. 

Synnex, however, was relegated to elite distribution partner status. 

Synnex and fellow elite AMD distributor Altech will purchase AMD goods from the direct distributor partners. Previously, Synnex placed orders directly with AMD. 

Slattery said the change was related to the distribution track of its revamped global partner program. 

AMD was "working to ensure a smooth transition for Synnex”, he said.

“We want to thank them for their continued effort and support in selling our products through the channel. This is just a move that we think is better for partners in the channel and it takes some stock pressures off.

“There will also be special benefits for selling complete suites for elite distributors next year," he said.

Darren Tan, product manager and marketing director at Synnex Australia, said Synnex had a long-standing relationship with AMD and would continue to offer AMD products to its channel partners.
