Alphawest staff cut in Optus restructure

Optus has made over 50 positions redundant from its Optus Business and service provider division Alphawest.

In total Optus cut 56 roles from all levels across the sales, commercial, marketing and customer service and solutions functions. The redundancies accounted for about 2 percent of the combined Optus Business and Alphawest workforce.

Optus said the restructure was "part of organisational changes aimed at introducing greater operational efficiencies, reducing duplication and removing functions that no longer support our key business objectives".

"We are exploring redeployment opportunities for impacted staff to ensure they remain supported throughout the process with outplacement services and our employee assistance program also available," Optus spokesperson said.

Ealier this month Optus was named as one of five global service provider launch partners for VMware's vCloud Director, a technology that will enable organisations to securely provide IT as a service to end-users.
