Acer is partnering with Intel to bring the Intel Education Software (IES) suite to the channel.
The software is available on the TravelMate B113, X313 Ultrabook and the Iconia W510/W510P tablet with plans to expand the offering to the full line of education market solutions.
Acer's channel partners can have the software package pre-installed during manufacturing for a small additional cost per unit with the cost decreasing on higher orders. It will add $49.00 ex GST to each computer they purchase with the software suite.
The IES suite includes that support communication, collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, and digital literacy. There are tools for teachers and students.
The IES applications includes:
- Kno Textbooks: an interactive e-Reader designed specifically for education.
- Lab Camera: a camera-based science exploration application.
- SPARKvue: a data analysis application that collects data from internal and external sensors.
- Media Camera: a multi-media application that enables students to capture and edit pictures and video.
- ArtRage: a painting and drawing digital artwork application
- Classroom Management, a collaborative classroom-learning solution.
- McAfee® AntiVirus: Protecting students and education institutions against online hazards.
For the Acer's channel partners, this looks like a good opportunity to increase margins at a time when hardware prices are being squeezed.
Although the price for schools is $49 ex GST per computer, their buy price falls as the volumes they order increase.
