A Good Certification Group becomes accredited body for AI management standard

Australian-owned ISO certification body A Good Certification Group (AGCG) has been accredited by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) to certify organisations against ISO/IEC 42001:2023, the international standard for AI management systems - one of just four certification bodies globally to hold the accreditation.

The accreditation allows AGCG to independently audit and certify organisations' AI governance frameworks against the standard, which provides a structured basis for developing and deploying AI while meeting compliance obligations.

AGCG chief executive Jose Bishop said the accreditation extended the body's broader aim of making certification a tool for genuine improvement rather than box-ticking compliance.

"ISO/IEC 42001 represents a next step in that mission," Bishop said.

"This standard gives organisations an internationally recognised way to demonstrate they have the governance and oversight to use AI effectively. Our role is to make that process impartial, practical and focused on delivering genuine value for the organisation - not simply providing a certificate."

Among the first organisations in the region to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 certification through AGCG is Revio, a cybersecurity and AI risk advisory firm operating across Australia and New Zealand.

"We sit at the intersection of cyber security, AI and risk management, and we didn't want to ask clients to do something we hadn't done ourselves," said John Baird, founder and chief executive of Revio.

"So we built an AI management system, got it certified to ISO 42001, and now we can speak from experience, not just theory."

Baird said the process had sharpened the firm's client advisory work. "The biggest lesson for us was that governing AI responsibly is less about restricting it and more about being able to explain it: clear processes, appropriate guardrails, meaningful human oversight."

AGCG was acquired and transformed from Certification Oceania in 2024. The company stated it has since grown from an Australia-focused operation into an international certification group active across 17 countries, with triple-digit year-on-year revenue growth.
