92% of surveyed Australian CIOs have carbon emissions targets: Logicalis

Sustainability was a priority for most Australian CIOs surveyed for the global Logicalis CIO Report 2024.

The report is based on a global survey of more than 1,000 CIOs, including 100 from Australia.

Logicalis reports that 92 per cent of the surveyed Australian CIOs had clear targets to reduce carbon emissions from IT, while 94 per cent were increasing their sustainability investments.

Globally, 89 per cent of CIOs had clear targets to reduce carbon emissions, with 92 per cent ramping up sustainability investments.

Ninety-nine per cent of surveyed Australian CIOs said their function was involved in their company’s overall sustainability planning and target setting, and 51 per cent said their function was integral to the process.

“Data is the key to both benchmarking and target setting across all sustainability initiatives including assessing the energy consumption and carbon emissions of the digital estate," Logicalis CTO Toby Alcock stated in the report.

"Visibility of performance over time is critical to drive improvements.”

According to the survey, 96 per cent of surveyed Australian CIOs said IT was core to the success of their organisation’s sustainability goals, while 92 per cent of Austrailan organisations had clear targets to reduce carbon emissions from IT along with a roadmap to actually achieve those reductions.

“Over time, there has been a shift in priorities towards sustainability and cybersecurity, with AI more recently emerging as a critical piece of the digital transformation puzzle," Logicalis Australia CEO Anthony Woodward stated.

"There is a pressing need for CIOs to embrace visionary leadership, and the importance of integrating technologies, such as AI, into business operations cannot be overstated."
