BYOD booms for Melbourne's Learning with Technologies
Kevin Yep

We speak with Learning With Technologies marketing manager Kevin Yep

What laptop and hybrid brands do you specialise in?

Our largest vendor partner for laptops and hybrids would be Acer Computer Australia, closely followed by Lenovo, HP and Microsoft.

When did your company first get involved in this area?

Right from the outset in 2001.

What are your credentials in this area?

We do warranty work for Acer, Lenovo and HP in the laptop and hybrid area, so we have in-house and on-site technicians that undertake repair work.

Which distributors do you use?

Ingram Micro and Synnex are two of our major distributor partners.

Heard about any cool developments in this space recently?

I guess in the way of technology we haven't seen much in the education space, but things like near-field communication and antibacterial keyboards will become more prevalent in the years to come.

Can you tell us about a recent deployment you’ve done?

We've got a deployment coming up later this month where we are going to help a customer perform some imaging and deployment of operating systems, drivers and programs across their units. We'll be integrating into their premises and working around the clock to minimise downtime.

What is driving sales in laptops and hybrids?

Typically it is BYOD and parents being more aware of what is out there. With all the digital education revolution money drying up recently, laptops and hybrids that are three to four years old need to be replaced. That is being driven by the cost of the units being forced back onto parents rather than schools. We have to compete and be more in line with big retailers to keep that flow of sales coming through.

Laptops and hybrids are…?

Essential to the next wave of young Australians' education.
