X2M signs MOU with Gateway DC for high-density GPU data centres

X2M has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Gateway DC, a developer of 'sovereign', hyperscale-ready data centre campuses in Darwin, to collaborate on the marketing, sale and delivery of high-density GPU data centre capability across specific regions of Australia and potentially into South East Asia.

Under the two-year MOU, X2M proposes to provide its data centre environmental and energy management platform to support Gateway DC's projects, which are scaled at 120MW with a pathway to 2GW and beyond.

X2M would also introduce potential customers and development partners to those projects.

In return, Gateway DC proposes to provide services supporting X2M's delivery of data centre capability to its own pipeline of customers, which the company said exceeds 200MW of potential data centre capacity.

X2M's platform would connect energy generation, storage, distribution and environmental sensors across a precinct into a single AI-enabled management system. The company said this arrangement has the potential to generate recurring platform revenue, subject to binding agreements being reached.

Gateway DC's Darwin campus sits at the landing point of a subsea cable corridor to Asia, a location the companies said positions it to serve both domestic and regional demand for data centre capacity.

The MOU follows a binding data centre agreement with an estimated project cost in excess of $250m and two prior non-binding partnership agreements, all signed within the last month.

"X2M is developing a solid pipeline of data centre prospects and methodically taking them from the evaluation stage to partnership agreements and contracts. Delivering on this will require services from partners like Gateway DC and the high density GPU factory providers," said Mohan Jesudason, chief executive at X2M.
