Equinix opens liquid cooling innovation centre in Sydney

In summary

  • Equinix has launched its EPIC liquid cooling innovation centres in five locations, including Sydney, with more sites expected in 2027.
  • Each EPIC centre sits inside a live Equinix data centre, letting enterprise teams trial liquid-cooled GPU and CPU platforms under real production conditions.
  • Equinix said the aim is to help customers identify infrastructure and operational issues before they go to production, reducing deployment risk as GPU rack densities rise.

Equinix has launched a global network of liquid cooling innovation centres, with Sydney among the first five locations, giving enterprises a production-ready environment to test and validate high-density AI infrastructure before committing to large-scale deployments.

The programme, called Equinix Enhanced Performance Innovation Centers (EPIC), is live in Sydney, Frankfurt, London, Osaka and Paris, with additional locations expected in 2027.

Each EPIC centre operates inside a live Equinix data centre, allowing enterprise teams to trial liquid-cooled GPU and CPU platforms with hardware partners and run AI training and inference workloads under real production conditions.

Equinix said the aim is to help customers identify infrastructure and operational issues before they go to production, reducing deployment risk as GPU rack densities rise.

"Liquid cooling is an essential component of modern enterprise infrastructure and a hard requirement for customers deploying AI," said Brian Stein, senior vice president, infrastructure products and services at Equinix.

"EPIC provides businesses with a place to test, validate and build with confidence before they commit to large-scale deployments."

EPIC follows earlier Equinix innovation programmes - a Co-Innovation Facility launched in 2022 for partner technology testing, and Solution Validation Centers rolled out in 2024 for deployment validation.
