VMware says channel can feast on Carbon Black

VMware’s acquisition of security vendor Carbon Black has formally concluded.

Carbon Black shares ceased trading on Monday. Former CEO Patrick Morley now has a new job atop a new Security Business Unit within VMware.

VMware’s chief operating officer Sanjay Poonen said the new unit will use the company’s NSX, Workspace ONE and Secure State, plus “future innovations” to “deliver a highly-differentiated intrinsic security platform across network, endpoint, workload, identity, cloud and analytics.”

Poonen repeated VMware’s belief that the security industry is ripe for disruption with tools that replace problem-hunting-and-remediation with tools that determine a known good state and then squash anything that deviates. Carbon Black 

And the channel? VMware told CRN no current partnerships with either VMware or Carbon Black will change. But the company also said VMware hopes its reach into enterprise customers, by itself with Dell and SecureWorks, and through distribution, will be good news for Carbon Black and its partners.
